"MUST HAVE" - VEHICLE RECOVERY GEAR

Kinetic recovery strap for ~25k lbs, great for non fullsize rigs (I use it for my jeep).  Buy a heavier duty version (larger diameter) for fullsize or larger rigs.  You want a strap that can stretch and the heavier duty will be more like a static strap when used with light weight rigs. - $100

Soft Shackle for your kinetic rope.  The goal here is to remove metal/steel from your recovery setup, less chance for heavy flying projectiles.  Be sure to buy at least two, one for each end of the recovery strap. - $45

Brennan Soft Shackle_edited.jpg

Hitch receiver adapter for using your trailer hitch as a rear vehicle anchor.  removes the D-Ring from the equation and has machined soft edges for use with soft chackles.  Safest way to use your trailer hitch receive on your vehicle or the vehicle you are recovering. - $140

Tree Saver strap for using as an anchor point (around a tree or rock).  Designed to not stretch and to be used to mount a winch or snatch block to. - $20

Axle Strap for use in certain situations where a soft shackle or traditional strap won't fit.  *WARNING* - this is not designed as recovery equipment and most have a working load limit (WLL) of ~3700lbs, breaking at 10k.  Not to be used for yanking or at the end of a recovery strap.  Useful for fitting around roll cages, or sharp bumpers as a sacrificial strap, or in areas where other gear won't fit. - $26

Hi Lift Jack is useful for countless things offroad.  Mostly useful for jacking a vehicle off the ground and repositioning it.  Make sure to understand how to use and when to use it as they are inherently dangerous when used incorrectly.  Get one at a length that is greater than your suspension droop.  I recommend the all cast version as oppose to the stamped steel. ~$100

Traction Boards, not the first thing you need to buy, but extremely useful in the SNOW, MUD, or SAND.  These are MAXTRAX knockoffs that seem to hold up pretty well. - $85

Sometimes there comes a time that you just need to dig yourself out, when that time comes, a shovel is extremely useful to have.  This is a basic cheap, small shovel.  I've found the folding shovels generally aren't nearly as good and aren't worth their compactness. - $30

CAMPING

Gazelle T4 tent.  I can set it up in 1min and 8sec and tear it down nearly as fast.  While I usually sleep in a Hammock or in the Excursion.  It is nice for those rainier nights or when I'm not traveling solo.

  • WARNING!!! This thing is HUGE even when collapsed.  If you have a jeep or want to use this in a smaller rig, I highly recommend their smaller size, the T3.

There are a TON of cheap hammocks out there.  I happened to get this one for $5 on some IG promo years ago.

Sadly the REI Camp Bed 3.5 is no longer made.  But here is a link to it anyway

Propane Heater that is safe for tent and RV use (within reason).  Great for warming the tent in the morning to get dressed and for cutting the chill when you can't have a fire.  Like a stove, it still requires a Fire Permit in CA.

A classic!  Cheap, dependable, small enough to fit in action packers and on tailgate tables.

Nemo inflatable Fabric lined pillow.  I've tried a lot of pillows camping, and this one stands out as a winner.

Hot water Shower!  Shower head & pump that is battery driven.  SUPER awesome and easy to use.  Converts any water jug into a shower instantly.

Bolted to my driver side tailgate swing out on the Excursion.  It's really handy, and their new updated version fixes a lot of the issues with their original.
